COVID-19 and the guidelines that are being implemented to prevent further spread are interrupting all aspects of our lives and our children’s education routines. This has been one of the biggest changes we have had to adapt to. Instead of sending our children off to be taught, we as parents and caregivers have been thrust into the world of homeschooling. For Arizona, that will be the case for the rest of the school year.

As you know classes are being converted to distance learning, with the teachers teaching behind a screen. Leaving us the caregivers, to be the ones to make sure classes are accomplished, and that education is not swept to the sidelines.

We cannot encourage you enough to continue to keep up with your child’s schoolwork. It will make sure they are not only learning and growing as they should, but it will also recreate a sense of normalcy and routine. And our children desperately need that right now.

Their lives have been turned upside down too, they are feeling so many emotions from all the upheaval and loss of routine. Reassure them that they are loved and safe, and help keep their little minds busy and learning.

While we know that you will be spending a lot of your school time completing assignments given by teachers, we encourage you to make this a fun experience for your child. This is a once in a lifetime occurrence, (hopefully) so, make the best of it! Change things up, get creative and have some fun!

This is the perfect time to branch out in your child’s education. A time to let their own talents and interest bloom, a time to show them that learning can extend beyond the four walls of the classroom. And branch out into the entire world. (virtually of course…)

There are so many free resources out there to easily accompany and reinforce your child’s assignments and interests. And we have compiled our top 10 resources to help you get started!

Social distancing with kiddos and quarantine for however long means no playdates, no park visits, no visiting indoor play places, or any other activity where other people are gathered. All in an effort for our society to collectively slow the spread of Covid19. It’s going to be a trying time for many. Especially for those of you that have children that are of school age, or are used to weekly playdates, and daily outings. Don’t worry though, handling quarantine with children is possible!

To help you out, I am sharing my favorite resources to keep your young charges entertained and busy. And to help keep your sanity.

To begin with, I would highly recommend setting up an hourly schedule. Children thrive on routine. And with the normal routine having to be thrown out the window, creating a new one ASAP, will make days go much more smoothly. And it will create a sense of safety and familiarity with your child.

Below is a sample daily schedule that can easily be adapted to suit your current needs.

While setting up organized, special activities are a great idea, including kids in the normal day to day activities can be a great boredom buster too!

Baking– Try a new cake or bread recipe. Depending on the age of the child, you can include them in most of the process. Let them pour the ingredients in a mixer or even measure out the ingredients. Make it a learning activity.

House work– Assign them household chores that have to be completed every day. Make a chart with stickers for younger children. Set a timer, and whoever finishes their chore before the timer goes off, gets extra screen time.

Yard work– Do you have leaves that need raking? A flower bed that needs weeding? Or a porch to be swept off? Let your children burn off energy in the sun by helping with those chores. Or another idea is to digitally connect with neighbors, and ask if you can bring the kids over to complete yard work for them if they are unable to at this time. Just make sure the neighbor stays indoors!

At home exercise routine– Since you aren’t going to the gym, workout at home with YouTube. And get your kids to workout right along with you. Teach them how to do push-ups, and burpees. Let them have a jumping jack competition. See who can stretch the most in Yoga. The possibilities are endless!

Get creative! This is a challenging and stressful time for all of us and kids sense it. But we can make the best of handling quarantine with children.

Make memories and strive to create an atmosphere of peace and calm.

Ease their fears and worries. Make this a time of fun for your child. And you too!

Also, don’t be afraid if you just need a day or two where you do nothing but sit in front of a screen. Let go of high expectations, and just be.

And drink an extra cup of coffee. Or two. You will probably need it.

Are you looking for some extra activities to entertain your little ones whether you are a Nanny or Mom? These 6 activities will keep your children entertained and having a blast! They also will help you to spend some great quality time with them and make a few memories along the way. Also, a lot of these are educational activities that allow you to incorporate learning in a fun and easy way!

Here are 6 easy & fun activities for children:

Bubbles– kids love bubbles! You can make this fun too by getting a bubble machine, fun wands, or just ordinary bubbles are perfectly fine! Go outside, get the bubbles going, run around a bit, and get some fresh air too!

If you want a neat bubble machine that is portable, check this one out:

Sensory Box– there are so many ideas for easy sensory box/bin that allows a child to play and have fun as well as incorporating sensory stimulation. One idea for a unique sensory bin is to make a birdseed sensory bin. All you need is a plastic bin/box (prefer deeper ones so less of a mess) and a few bird figurines. This is a fun way for the child to see what foods some birds like to eat, feel the textures of the seeds, and have lots of fun playing with the birds and birdseed.

Color Scavenger Hunt– oh this is so much fun and super easy and it takes the children outside (although this can be done inside too). You will need a white paper lunch bag and color markers. Write Color Scavenger Hunt at the top of the white paper lunch bag and then choose the colors you want the child to find on the hunt outside (or inside for a rainy day) and scribble small squares of that color on the front of the bag. Give the child the color scavenger hunt bag and let them have fun collecting all the items that match the colors on the bag. After the hunt, you can have the child share what they found and tell you all about the items. Also, has some amazing craft ideas for kids so hop on over and take a peak! (idea from )

Alphabet Hunt– this is a fun activity similar to an Easter egg hunt but with the alphabet! You just simply hide alphabet magnets or alphabet flashcards around the house for an indoor activity or in the yard for outdoor activity. You then have the child hunt all the alphabet and when they find the letter they must tell you a word that starts with that letter.

Need some alphabet magnets? to see a very reasonable priced one.

Paper Airplane Races– this is a super simple yet fun activity. Have the child sit down and make a paper airplane (you may have to assist) and then they can decorate with colors and stickers! Then race with the paper airplanes. Set up a start line and have the child or children throw their paper airplane to see who goes the farthest or who flies the fastest. You will need more than one paper airplane for the race so if there is more than one child have them race one another or you as the Nanny or Mom make one and race with the child!

Build a Fort– an oldie but a goodie! Build a fort in the house with a table, chairs, sheets, blankets, and anything else you can think of that would be great for it. Take a flashlight and a book and read stories by flashlight! Or make it like you are camping and tell stories by the “campfire”!
